Redfoot Maldives Trekking (Crossing Coral Islands - Explore the Essence Landscape of Maldives on Foot)
Maldives is usually associated with luxury resorts, crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches. However, behind the picture-perfect scenery lies a world of natural wonders waiting to be discovered on foot. In this article, we will take you on a journey to explore a different side of Maldives – crossing coral islands and trekking through the natural landscapes that have made Maldives so famous.
Day 1: From Hulhumale to Himmafushi Island
Our journey begins on Hulhumale, a reclaimed island near Male International Airport. We board a speedboat, heading towards Himmafushi Island, located in North Male Atoll. The 45-minute ride is a thrilling adventure, as we ride over the waves with the beautiful view of the Indian Ocean as far as the eye can see.
Upon arriving at Himmafushi Island, we are greeted by the locals with a warm welcome and traditional music. We explore the island, its beautiful beaches, and immerse ourselves in the culture of Maldives. As night falls, we hike to our accommodation, a cozy guesthouse that offers us a peaceful and comfortable start to our adventure.
Day 2: Crossing Coral Islands from Himmafushi to Huraa
Today, we set off early for the longest trek of our journey. Trekking through the coral islands requires focus and concentration, as the terrain is uneven and at times, quite challenging. The sun beats down on us as we cross shallow waters and navigate through the coral formations, but the views more than make up for the effort.
We make our way to Huraa Island, a beautiful island that has preserved the traditional architecture of Maldives. The island is dotted with all houses, gardens and narrow alleys, providing us with an authentic glimpse of life in Maldives. We explore the island, enjoying the local delicacies, and as night falls, we retire to our guesthouse, exhausted but exhilarated from the day’s adventure.
Day 3: Trekking from Huraa to Thulusdhoo Island
Today’s trek takes us through stunning natural landscapes, to the island of Thulusdhoo. The island is the epitome of Maldivian beauty, with its turquoise blue waters and pristine white sandy beaches. As we trek through the island, we come across lush vegetation, unique flora and fauna, and breathtaking views of the ocean.
Thulusdhoo is also known for its surf breaks and has become a popular destination for professional surfers around the world. We take the opportunity to try surfing, and with the guidance of experienced instructors, we ride the waves and enjoy the thrill of surfing in a truly magical location.
Day 4: Thulusdhoo Island to Male City
Our adventure comes to an end as we trek back to Male City, the bustling capital of Maldives. We bid farewell to the natural landscapes that have captivated us throughout our journey and return to modern civilization. However, the memories of our adventures will always remain with us, and we will forever be grateful for the opportunity to explore Maldives on foot.
In conclusion, trekking through Maldives provides a unique and unforgettable experience. It allows us to truly appreciate the beauty of Maldives beyond the luxurious resorts and tourist hotspots. We highly recommend embarking on this adventure and experiencing Maldives in a new and exciting way.
